Tunnel ITS Maintenance Works

ERH, with sister company Centregreat, undertook maintenance and improvement works on the Brynglas and Gibraltar (Monmouth) Tunnels – two critical elements of the South Wales transport infrastructure.

The Gibraltar Tunnels are a pair of bored tunnels carrying the A40 through Gibraltar Hill near Monmouth. Constructed in the late 1960s they form part of the route linking the Midlands to South Wales. The Brynglas Tunnels first opened in 1967 & at their peak they carry approximately 80,000 vehicles per day and must be considered a major transport link for the resilience of Wales and the wider UK.

Our works included maintenance and improvements to lighting, CCTV, intelligent transport systems (ITS) and emergency systems and equipment.
