The scheme along the busy B4595 Broadway, Pontypridd was developed to widen the junction to provide an additional right turn lane on to the A4058 heading towards the A470 (Sainsbury’s) and also included the installation of new pedestrian detectors incorporated into the traffic signal controls; to improve traffic flow along the busy junction and to ease queuing and congestion.
ERH added the queuing lane to the B4595 at the junction with the A4058, by reducing the size of the pedestrian refuge islands on either side of the carriageway. The works associated with the carriageway widening included:
ERH provided the Traffic Management using their in-house NHSS 12A, 12B and 12D accredited in-house Traffic Management team.
Works were scheduled and organised to minimise disruption where possible. As the junction was busy throughout the day, the Traffic Management was set up to ensure traffic flows were maintained throughout the works and the part of the B4595 which was widened remained open. The project was completed on time and to budget and has improved the traffic flow and congestion on this route.
